Why professional training matters

Professional guidance.
A clearer path forward.

ICBC explains that driver training develops the skills and attitudes that support safe, confident driving.

ICBC also recommends checking school and instructor licences and choosing a course that fits your needs.

Our expert instruction connects air-brake theory to the checks drivers need to understand. Clear explanations can make knowledge-test preparation easier to follow; practical training in the 11-hour course helps you build a more consistent inspection routine.

01

Why add an air-brake endorsement?

An on-highway air-brake endorsement lets you operate air-brake-equipped vehicles within the vehicle classes your licence permits. It can support your plans to drive suitable trucks, buses or RVs; it is an endorsement, not a separate vehicle licence.

02

Understand the knowledge

Learn how air pressure, system components and warning devices work together. Pair instructor explanations with the relevant air-brake sections of ICBC’s Driving Commercial Vehicles guide to prepare for the applicable knowledge test and understand why each check matters.

03

Prepare for the right practical steps

The 11-hour course adds four hours of practical training to seven hours of theory. Guided practice helps you connect system knowledge to pre-trip checks and recognize issues that need attention.

A single-unit air-brake endorsement has no separate road test. Inspection requirements depend on your course route; Class 1 combination-vehicle requirements are different. Confirm your applicable tests with ICBC.

ICBC endorsement and testing steps

Training helps you prepare; passing depends on meeting ICBC’s requirements and demonstrating the required skills.
